Charlotte Aeromodelers' Albums > 2015 Fall Fly IN
We had 45 registered pilots and a lot of visitors. Between flyers and guests, we had over 350 people to attend. We had a chance to honor Gene Leonard, a former member, by dedicating the gazebo as a memorial to Gene for his service to country and the club. Also, we were able to raise a very large donation to the Purple Heart Foundation who have served us anf the country well.

Charlotte Aeromodelers Fall Fly-In in support of the purple Heart Veterans.

What a day! We setup Friday night for the one event that is my favorite, “The Purple Heart Veterans Chapter 634”. This is the one event that we can help those who gave us the freedom we have today. These guys are special to me, attending several of their meeting hearing what they went through and what they are still going through today! Our country needs to take better care of these men and women . We started this event 3 years ago and it makes me proud to raise funds to give to this chapter to help those who served.

It was a frosty morning, the sun was out and I knew it was going to be a great day. Kathy and I started making coffee as we knew the vets, pilots and guest would need a hot cup of coffee and some great pastry’s to start off the day! The club had $4000.00 in raffle prizes, BBQ Pork, prepared by our own Bobby Helms and his family and the field looked great. We had red white and blue banners down the spectator fence and flight line. We open the event with Commander Mike Stubbs and the member of chapter 634 presenting our colors and prayers for those who fought for our country and those who gave the ultimate price for freedom.

John Metcalf dedicated the Gazebo to Gene Leonard. Gene left us this year with his battle with cancer. He Loved to fly and will be missed by all. Gene was a D-Day survivor and it is a Honor to dedicate our gazebo to him.

Jeff Stubbs flew his British Hawk for our noon show! This aircraft value is around $20,000.00 and it flew like a trainer. Well, Jeff at least made it look like that. He is a fantastic pilot and brought the crowd to their feet! After the flight he let Kids, Dads, Moms, Vets and yes, even me to get our pictures with his bird.

Overall everything went great. To all the CAM members, Thank You, without your support it would not have happened!
